Guide

Short, checked answers about TrueEarn. For anything else, write to support@trueearn.co.uk — a person reads it.

The Books

'Your free trial has ended' banner

Nothing you logged was touched: when access ends you can still READ and DOWNLOAD everything — only adding new entries stops. One known rough edge: the banner says "free trial has ended" even when what actually ended was a paid plan, so do not let the wording worry you. To keep adding to your books you will need a plan when they go on sale; while we are testing with a small group, ask us by email.

Airports and airport rates

Airports live inside expenses: pick the category "Airport (drop-off/pickup)" in an expense and the link "+ Manage airports and rates" appears. On that page, tick your airports from the list (they arrive with a £0 rate) or add one with the free form — and to CHANGE a rate, just type the new number next to the airport and tap "Save rates": nothing is deleted, and days you already logged keep the old value (the new rate counts from now on). Removing an airport is still final, with no undo. Once set, choosing airport + direction fills the amount in for you, and money the platform gives back for the airport is just a note — your earnings stay what the bank shows.

Books on the phone (no app to install)

The Books needs no app: it opens in any browser, iPhone included — just sign in at trueearn.co.uk. On some new Android phones, Chrome's "install app" shortcut gets blocked by Play Protect; that block is Android's, not ours. Use the Books in the browser, or add a plain bookmark/shortcut to your home screen instead.

Car rent, insurance and fixed costs

Log the rent as an expense in the "Car rent" category on the day you actually pay it, for the amount actually paid. Nothing repeats automatically — the Books never invents an entry you did not make. In the report, the rent and insurance sit under "The car", and the cost is spread over the week you worked.

Dates and values the Books accepts

The Books accepts dates from 10 years ago up to tomorrow, and amounts from zero up — nothing negative, and nothing above 1,000,000. If your entry is inside those limits and still refused, tell me the exact message on the screen and I will pass it on. One rough edge: some error messages show the field's internal name in quotes — 'outro' is the Other earnings box, 'hours' the hours box, 'amount (£)' and 'litres' belong to expenses, and 'week' to invoices. The fix is just to correct that one field; if the name is not on this list, tell me the exact message.

Downloading your data

You can download everything you logged at any time. The accountant's report is available as an Excel spreadsheet and as a zip with the receipt photos, and the full backup includes odometer readings, times, receipt photos and refunds.

Editing or deleting a day

Every line has a pencil next to it — tap it to correct the amounts, miles, times or date of that day. Deleting shows an "Undo" button right after, and what you delete is kept for 7 days; but there is no bin screen to browse, so the Undo button right after deleting is the moment to catch it. If you deleted something days ago and need it back, a person can check — tell me what and roughly when.

Expenses and receipts

Add an expense with its category, date and amount. You can start from a photo of the receipt and the Books will try to read it and fill the form in — check what it read before saving. Only fuel asks for a photo. Your receipts are kept in Receipts.

How weeks are counted

A week in TrueEarn runs from Monday to Sunday. A week that crosses into a new month or a new year still counts as one week, and days with no earnings still count their miles and hours.

Invoices from the apps (weekly, PDF or photo)

Weekly invoices live inside the Report: open it, tap "Export and send", then "Invoices from the apps". Add a photo OR a PDF for the week (several per week is fine; the week is always counted from its Monday), and it goes into your accountant pack. Three things worth knowing: a PDF always DOWNLOADS rather than opening on the page — that is normal; "That PDF looks incomplete" means download it again from the platform and retry; and deleting an invoice is final, with no undo, so delete only what you are sure about.

Logging earnings

Log what was paid into your account for each day: Uber, Bolt and any other work. Airport money the platform gives back is logged as an expense, so it does not count as earnings. You can edit any day afterwards with the pencil next to it.

Marking days off / rest days

You do not need to mark days off any more — there is no screen for it, on purpose. Since the car started counting by what you actually log (rent and insurance as expenses on the day you pay), a day with nothing logged simply counts nothing. Days with no earnings but some driving still count their miles and hours if you log them.

Miles and hours

Type the odometer at the start and end of the day, and your start and end times. A night shift stays on the day it started. The report shows your work miles and, separately, an estimate of the miles between working days taken from jumps in your odometer; that estimate is not confirmed. TrueEarn does not work out any mileage allowance — your accountant decides.

Personal / estimated miles between days

Those come from your odometer. When today's start reading is higher than yesterday's end, the gap becomes an ESTIMATE of miles between working days — shown separately, marked as not confirmed, and never counted as work miles. So there are two honest numbers: work miles (used for your cost per mile) and total miles including the gaps (what a rental company's mileage limit sees). Your accountant decides what to use — TrueEarn does not work out any allowance.

Receipt photo rejected or read wrong

That is a known limit, not your phone: the reader only SUGGESTS the fields, and it gets the amount right on roughly 7 receipts out of 12 — that is why the screen says "check the amount". Correct the value by hand before saving; the photo still attaches as proof. Good light and the whole receipt in the frame help it. Did that sort it? One important thing first: when an upload fails, CHECK YOUR TYPED FIELDS before anything else — a failed photo can take the typed expense with it, so save the expense without the photo first, then attach the photo to it from the Receipts page. Now the upload: each photo can be up to 10 MB (big ones are shrunk before sending), and each account has 500 MB of space. Try again on a steady connection (wifi if the signal is poor). Did it go through? Then it is probably the photo FORMAT. iPhone photos (HEIC) are a known gap we are checking: open the photo, screensh

Report, periods and totals

Weeks run Monday to Sunday — a week crossing a month or year end still counts as one week, and a day with no earnings still counts its miles and hours. The report shows what was paid to you, your expenses (with the car's costs under "The car"), both mile counts, and it never works out tax — it organises the figures for your accountant.

Settings (car, targets, licence, backup)

Settings holds five things: 1) YOUR CAR — choose "I rent the car" or "I own the car"; switching between them NEVER deletes anything, the other side's numbers are just kept aside. The car now counts by what you log: rent and insurance go in as expenses on the day you pay. 2) YOUR TARGETS — earnings target and, for renters, the miles limit and cost per extra mile, by week or by month (filling one converts the other; a month is counted as 4.333 weeks, not exactly 4). Leaving a line's value empty removes that line. 3) YOUR LICENCE — status and a link to the details. 4) BACKUP — a server copy is made daily and the button downloads your own figures. 5) DELETE ACCOUNT — final, asks your password on its own page.

Trend page (how close to the target)

The Trend page lives inside the Report: open the Report and tap "Open the full page" under the trend block. It shows where you are THIS week and month against your earnings target (and the miles limit, for renters), plus the last 8 weeks and 6 months with what was left per hour. If it says to set a target first, that is done in Settings → Your targets.

What counts as earnings (bank, commission, airport refunds)

Log what was PAID INTO YOUR BANK for each day — that is the whole rule. Do not log the Uber or Bolt commission anywhere: the money that reached you already has it taken off, so logging it again would double-count (that is why "Platform fee" is not offered as an expense). Airport fees the platform gives back are logged as a normal expense, so your earnings stay exactly what the bank shows.

Which day a shift belongs to

A night shift belongs to the day it STARTED. The Books' day turns over at 4am, so finishing at 1 or 2 in the morning keeps the shift on the evening before — and when you come back the next day, the screen reopens your open shift (up to 2 days back) so you can add the end odometer and time. If an entry landed on the wrong day, open that day and use the pencil next to the line to edit it.

The Copilot

Accessibility switch blocked (Restricted setting)

That is Android protecting you, and it has a way through. Tap OK on the warning, then open Settings → Apps and find the app — it appears as "Copiloto" if you installed from the site, or "TrueEarn" from the Play Store — tap the three dots at the top right and choose "Allow restricted settings". Then go back to Settings → Accessibility → Installed apps and turn it on there . One note: the app cannot open its own Accessibility page directly — Android only allows the system to do that — so you reach it through Settings yourself.

Android warning when installing from the site

That warning is Android's standard message for ANY app installed from outside the Play Store — it appears because of where the file came from, not because something wrong was found. Two safety rules we insist on: download ONLY from trueearn.co.uk (check the address bar first), and if the warning on your screen says something DIFFERENT from what the /get page describes, stop and write to us instead of tapping through. The /get page walks you through the expected steps.

Battery, optimisers and cleaners

Two protections keep the copilot alive through a shift: give TrueEarn the battery exemption it asks for on its first screen (so Android does not kill it mid-shift), and keep cleaner or booster apps away from it — a "force stop" from those quietly unbinds the reader. On long shifts, keep the phone on the charger: if the battery runs flat the phone simply shuts down.

Card in the way, too big or slow

Three quick fixes. In the way: drag the card with your finger — it remembers its position for each app, so park it away from the Accept and Decline buttons. Too big: open the Copilot's Setup and switch Card format to Compact. Slow: update to the newest version (the queue was reworked); note the card takes about 2 seconds to leave AFTER the offer closes on purpose, so a flickering button does not pull it away too early.

Copilot stopped reading during the day

Open Settings → Accessibility → TrueEarn and turn the switch OFF and ON again with your finger. A "force stop" — by a cleaner app, battery optimiser or by hand — quietly unbinds the reader even though the switch still looks on. Newer versions try to show a fixed notification ("Copilot stopped reading… Open TrueEarn to look") when the reader goes blind — but on many phones that notice never appears, so do not rely on it: if offers stop drawing a card, do the switch OFF/ON above. Avoid "Force stop" and battery cleaners on TrueEarn.

Does it accept or decline rides?

Never. It shows one number and one colour on top of the offer, and your thumb does the rest. It cannot even tap the screen — the card does not let taps through, which is why you drag it out of the way of the buttons.

Grey card with no colour

A grey card is on purpose, not a fault. It means the copilot could not read the trip time with confidence — long trips where Uber itself only says "more than 60 min" are the usual case. Rather than guess a colour and risk a false green, it shows you the facts it did read and leaves the colour out.

History / gallery of past offers

In the version you have today there is no screen to browse past offers, and no gallery. What the app keeps: the offer photos are wiped every day at 4am, while some technical logs of the day stay on the phone. None of it is sent anywhere by itself — the "Share the day's report" button in Setup lets YOU export the day's log if you want it, and nothing goes unless you tap it. (A photo gallery exists in a newer version still being tested; it is not available yet.) Your record of the day is what you log in the Books.

No card on offers

Open Settings → Accessibility → TrueEarn. Even if the switch looks ON, turn it OFF and ON again with your finger — a force stop can leave it marked on but not running. If the switch will not turn on at all, say "restricted" and I will give you the Samsung steps. Did the card come back on the next offer? Then check two things: 1) Open the TrueEarn app — does it say your free days or licence have ended? The card stops when access ends. 2) Make sure you are on the newest version from trueearn.co.uk/get — older versions missed offers when Uber is set to English. If both look right and there is still no card, this one is for a person. I will pass this to a person with what you tried.

Play version: switch on but nothing happens (I agree)

On the Play version, turning the switch on in Android Settings is only half of it: open the TrueEarn app itself, tap the red "THE COPILOT IS OFF" banner and accept the consent screen ("I agree"). Until you do, the reader stays silent on purpose — it will not look at your screen without your yes. The site version has no consent screen, so this only applies if you installed from Google Play.

Screenshot shows a black box over the card

That black box is deliberate. The card protects itself from screen capture so the copilot can never read its own card and feed on it. If you want to show the card to someone, film the screen with another phone.

Setup options (appearance, country, share)

Setup holds, besides the three permissions: DRIVER APPS (shows whether Uber and Bolt are installed), your country, Appearance (follow the phone, light or dark), Card format (Full or Compact, with a drawing of each), your licence, the badge you can drag, and "Share the day's report" — a button that lets YOU export the day's technical log; nothing is shared unless you tap it. The exact list can vary a little between versions.

Uber turns the volume up on every offer

That one is the Uber app, not TrueEarn: on each offer it forces the volume up before playing its alert, and lowering it afterwards does not stop the next offer doing it again. There is no safe self-service fix we can walk you through — it needs technical steps with a computer and a cable. Two things that help: the volume is per output, so your car's Bluetooth volume is separate; and some phones let you lower the specific channel (media or alarm) that Uber uses.

Updating the Copilot

If you installed from the site: the app checks for updates by itself and offers the new version; you can also download the newest one any time from trueearn.co.uk/get and install it on top — your settings stay, and in our tests the accessibility switch stayed on after the app updated itself. If it came from Google Play, updates arrive through the Play Store as usual. After any update, glance at Settings → Accessibility to confirm TrueEarn is still on.

What the colours mean (target)

The colours compare the offer with YOUR target, after your cost per mile: green is at or above 100% of it, yellow is between 85% and 100% (close, but short), red is below 85%. The badge says ON, NEAR or BELOW TARGET. Both the target and your cost per mile are set by you in the Copilot's Setup — there is a small calculator under "I don't know — work it out for me" if you are not sure of your cost. If the badge shows a purple "SET UP" instead of a colour, the app has no target or cost to compare with yet — fill both in on the Copilot's main screen.

What the copilot does

The copilot reads Uber and Bolt offers on Android and shows one number and one colour on top of the offer. It never accepts or declines a ride for you. It does not work on iPhone and does not read FreeNow.

Which ride apps it reads

The copilot reads Uber and Bolt only. On any other app — FreeNow, private work, a school run — it draws no card at all, and we will not pretend otherwise. Work from other apps can still be typed into the Books, where it counts the same in your totals.

Wrong number or wrong colour on the card

First, update: the site always hands you the newest version at trueearn.co.uk/get, and several reading faults were fixed over time. One known case — the Uber offer opening on top of Bolt and landing on a "Bolt" card, sometimes with a false green — is fixed in the Play version and is coming to the site version. If it keeps happening on the current version, tell me which app the offer was in and roughly what it showed, and I will pass it to a person: a rare misread can still slip through, and the team wants to see those.

Account, licence and plans

Buying in the Play app and restoring

In the Play version, a plan is bought with Google and tied to your Books account. There is no restore button because restoring is automatic: open the app, sign in with the SAME Books account you bought with, and open the Plans screen — it re-checks your purchase with Google by itself. If it still does not show, tell me which account you bought with (just the situation, no card details) and a person will check. Note: the Play version is in closed testing with invited testers right now.

Changing your email or password while logged in

Straight answer: there is no screen for that yet. For the PASSWORD there is a safe path — log out and use "Forgot your password?": the link that arrives by email lets you set a new one (it lasts 1 hour and works once). Changing the EMAIL on an account is done by a person, because we have to be sure it is really you — I can pass that request on.

Confirm your email to sign in

Since your account needs a confirmed email, do this: sign in with your password as normal — if the email is not confirmed yet, the site sends you a fresh link right away. Open the MOST RECENT email we sent (older links stop working; each link lasts 7 days and works once), and check the spam folder. After confirming, sign in again.

Deleting your account

I cannot delete anything from this chat. You can delete your account yourself in Settings: the page asks for your password there, not here. Your books, settings, receipt photos and invoices are deleted straight away. Records of licences and payments are kept as business records. Download your data first if you want a copy.

Emails that do not arrive

Do these two checks: 1) look in your spam or junk folder for an email from trueearn.co.uk; 2) on the reset page, make sure you typed EXACTLY the email you signed up with — the site answers the same either way, so a typo looks identical. The link lasts 1 hour and works once, so always open the newest email. Ask for a fresh link now if you need one. Did it arrive? Then one of two things is going on: that address is not the one on the account, or you no longer have access to that mailbox. Either way a person has to check it is really you — I cannot change an account's email from this chat. Tell me which address you think is on the account (no passwords), and I will save it for the team. The quickest way: sign in again with your password. When the email is not confirmed yet, the site sends you a FRESH link right away. Then open the most recent email we sent (older links stop working; each li

Free trial (14 days)

The free trial is 14 days per product, counted by the server — in the Copilot it starts without any account, and in the Books it counts from your account. Reinstalling the app does not restart it: the device is recognised. Right now, while TrueEarn is being tested with a small group of drivers, everything is free and nobody is blocked when trial days end — when that changes, the app and this site will say so well before.

Google Play

TrueEarn is not on the Play Store for the public yet. A version is in closed testing with a small group of testers. For now the copilot is downloaded from trueearn.co.uk — check the address before you download.

Invite code or licence code

They are two different things. An invite code lets you create a Books account while TrueEarn is invite only. A licence code is what you type once in the Copilot app after the free days; the copilot needs no account at all. One TrueEarn licence covers both the Copilot and the Books.

Licence code or purchase not recognised

Three quick checks: 1) type the code exactly as in the email — four letters/digits, a dash, four more (easy mixes: 0 and O, 1 and I); 2) be online for that first check — after that the licence works offline; 3) open the most recent email we sent, in case a newer code replaced an old one. Did it take the code? If the message says the code is already in use: a licence works on two phones at a time, and a factory reset makes the same phone count as a new one (reinstalling does not). Freeing a slot is done by a person — tell me roughly when you changed phone or reset it, and I will pass it on. If the message says something else, tell me the exact words. The plan is tied to your Books ACCOUNT, not to the phone. Open the app, make sure you are signed in with the SAME account you bought with, and open the Plans screen — it re-checks the purchase with Google by itself; there is no restore button

Licence on a new phone or second phone

A licence works on two phones at a time. Reinstalling the app does not use up a slot, but a factory reset makes the phone look brand new, so the old slot stays taken. Freeing a slot is done by a person on the team — I cannot do it from this chat. Tell me roughly when you changed phone and I will pass it on.

Licence shows active in the app after it was cancelled

The copilot checks its licence offline, using a signed pass stored on the phone — that is what keeps it working in a tunnel. The flip side: when a licence is cancelled on the server, the app only finds out when it next talks to the server, so it can keep working until the stored pass runs out. That is expected behaviour, not a fault.

Licence status page and linking a code (/produtos)

The licence page shows your status (free days left, licence until a date, or ended) and takes codes. If you bought with the SAME email as this account there is nothing to link — it connects by itself. Bought with a different email? Use "I already have a code": capitals, spaces and the dash do not matter. If it says the code does not work, that covers three cases — mistyped (watch 0/O and 1/I), already expired, or cancelled. And a code that is for the copilot only is typed in the Android app, not on this page.

Logging in

You log in to the Books with your email and password on the home page. If you have forgotten the password, use "Forgot your password?" to get a reset link by email. I will never ask you for your password here.

Moving a licence or account to someone else

I cannot move an account or a licence to someone else from this chat. A person has to check that request. I can pass it to the team.

Password reset

Open the password reset page, type the email you signed up with, and we send you a link to choose a new password. If the email does not arrive, check your spam folder first. Never send your password to anyone, including us.

Prepaid plans and prices

TrueEarn is free while we test it with a small group of drivers. After that it is a prepaid plan for 1, 3, 6 or 12 months: £11.99, £32.99, £59.99 or £109.99. There is no subscription and nothing renews on its own. The plans are not on sale yet.

Refunds

I cannot approve or promise a refund. A person looks at every refund request. I can pass your request to the team with a short summary — I will not ask for your card details.

Sign-up and invites

TrueEarn is invite only for now, while we test it with a small group of drivers. If you have an invite code, use "I have an invite code" on the home page to create your account. If you do not have one, you can ask for one by email at support@trueearn.co.uk.

Terms of service (where they are)

The terms live at trueearn.co.uk/terms, linked in the footer of every page. What is written there is what counts — I will not paraphrase them from memory. If a line there is unclear, tell me which one and a person will answer it.

Too many sign-in attempts

After 5 wrong tries in 10 minutes, sign-in pauses for a short while to protect the account. Wait about 10 minutes and try again calmly — or skip the guessing: use "Forgot your password?" and set a new one with the link that arrives by email.

When a plan ends

When a plan ends, nothing you logged is deleted automatically: you can still read and download it. You cannot add new entries to the Books until you have a plan again.

Why you cannot buy or sign up freely yet

That is the current state, not a fault: TrueEarn is being tested with a small group of drivers, so nothing is on sale yet and new accounts need an invite. The prices page already shows what a licence will cost (1, 3, 6 or 12 months, prepaid, no subscription). To join now, ask for an invite at support@trueearn.co.uk — a person reads every request. When sales open, the site will say so.

Privacy and your data

Backups and where data lives

Your books live on TrueEarn's own server in the UK, and the system keeps recent daily backup copies there. The strongest protection you control is in your hands: the Download page gives you everything you logged, any time, in files that are yours to keep. The retention policy — exactly how long each kind of copy is kept — is being written down; the privacy page will carry the final wording.

Privacy

The copilot does not ask for your location. The offers it photographs never leave the phone and are wiped every day at 4am. What reaches us is a number that identifies the device, with your licence code if you have one. The Books keep what you log in your account. The full privacy notice is on the Privacy page.

What the Copilot sends and keeps

The copilot does not ask for your location and cannot know where you are. The offer snapshots it reads stay on the phone and are wiped daily at 4am. What does reach us: a number identifying the device (with your licence code, if any) to count free days and check the licence. Anything else only leaves the phone if you share it yourself.

HMRC

HMRC and Making Tax Digital

Not yet. Sending updates to HMRC is not available: we are only trying it on HMRC's test service. TrueEarn never works out what you owe and never files anything with HMRC. Today the Books keep your records digital and hand them to your accountant.
