For self-employed drivers in the UK

The fare is not
your money.
What's left is.

Fuel, the car, the ULEZ, the wash — none of it is on the app screen that paid you. TrueEarn Books puts it all back in and hands the year to your accountant in one file.

The books · any browser

£1,380 came in.
You kept £816.

Fuel, the car, the ULEZ, the wash — none of it is on the app screen that paid you. The books put it all back in, one line at a time, and show what remains after the expenses you recorded. Then they hand the whole thing to your accountant.

Log each thing on the day it happens

Not a form to fill in every night. Money landed on Monday? Log it on Monday. Paid the car rent on Monday? Log it on Monday. Drove on Tuesday and Wednesday and only sat down on Thursday? Log all three then. The reports find the dates.

  • Three buttons: earnings, miles and hours, expense
  • Earnings logged twice on the same day add to the line already there — no duplicates
  • Note the odometer and the time when you set off and when you finish. A night shift that ends the next morning stays on the day it began
  • The car rent is an expense on the day you paid it, not a slice spread over days you did not work
  • Nothing nags you. Miss a day and the panel says nothing — that is your business

Photograph the receipt, it fills itself in

Point the camera at the till receipt and the panel reads the category, the date, the amount and the type of fuel, and writes them into the form for you. Anything wrong, you type over it — it never saves without you.

  • Your photo is sent to our server and processed there, without being sent to an external receipt-reading service.
  • The photo stays attached to that expense, ready for the accountant
  • It tells you when it is not sure, instead of pretending
Adding an expense: the photo of the receipt and the fields it filled in.

The number nobody shows you: what an hour really paid

Week, month, quarter or tax year. Everything that came in, everything that went out, and what stayed with you — divided by the hours you actually worked.

And at the end, one file for your accountant

Not a shoebox and not a spreadsheet you have to explain. One download, with everything already named and sorted.

The one-page report for the accountant: earnings by app, costs by category and what was left.
The first page of the accountant pack. Example account — not a real driver.
A report they can read at a glance One page with what came in from each app, what went out by category and what was left — then every day and every expense under it. The same figures come as an Excel workbook they can filter and total.
Every receipt, already named Each photo saved as date, category and amount, so nobody has to open them one by one to know what they are.
Your weekly invoices The self-billing invoices from Uber and Bolt, kept week by week, in the same package.
Your miles for the tax year Read from your odometer, day by day, and totalled for the tax year: the miles you worked and every mile the car did. Ready for whichever method your accountant chooses — TrueEarn works out no allowance, that is their job, not ours.
What it needs

Nothing installed. It opens in the browser of any phone — iPhone included — or on a computer, and you can add it to your home screen like an app. You note your odometer and the time at the start and at the end of the day, and the books do the subtraction.

What it does not do

It does not work out your tax, does not work out your VAT, and files nothing with HMRC — it organises your figures so your accountant does not have to. And it knows nothing about the offers on your phone: that is the other half.

What it costs

Free while we are testing with a small group of drivers. After that, a prepaid plan for 1, 3, 6 or 12 months — no subscription, nothing renews on its own. When a plan ends, nothing you logged is deleted automatically: you can still read and download it. See every price

TrueEarn

One licence, always with both: the Books on this page and the Copilot on your Android phone. Prepaid for 1, 3, 6 or 12 months. See the prices

TrueEarn is invite only right now

We are opening it a few drivers at a time, so that every problem gets fixed while it is still small. If someone sent you a code, use it below. If not, write to us and say what you drive for — a person reads it.

Why you can trust the numbers

We are a small independent product, not a bank. So here is exactly what we do and do not do, in plain words.

Your screen never leaves your phone To do the maths the copilot photographs the offer on your own screen. Those pictures are wiped every day at 4am and are never uploaded anywhere.
We never see where you drove The copilot does not ask for your location at all, so there is no route and no map to send. The miles in your books are the ones you read off your own odometer.
Record-keeping, not accountancy TrueEarn organises your figures so your accountant does not have to. It works out no tax, no VAT and no allowance, and it files nothing with HMRC.
Encrypted, backed up, in the EU Your books sit on our own server in Germany over HTTPS, backed up every day. We sell no data and there are no trackers on this page.

Before you ask

The questions that come up most, answered straight.

Do I have to use both?

No. One TrueEarn licence always includes both, and you can use just one of them. The copilot works with no account at all, and the books work with no app at all.

Does the copilot fill in my books?

No. They do not talk to each other, and that is deliberate — we tried it and it went wrong. The copilot only judges offers. Your hours come from the clock and your miles from the odometer, and typing them into the books takes a few seconds a day.

Does it work on an iPhone?

The books do — they open in any browser, iPhone included, with nothing to install. The copilot does not: reading what is on another app's screen is something only Android allows. A cheap second Android on the windscreen is what most people do.

Does TrueEarn accept or decline rides for me?

Never. It shows one number and one colour on top of the offer, and your thumb does the rest. It cannot even tap the screen — the card does not let taps through, which is why you drag it out of the way of the buttons.

Does it read FreeNow, or anything besides Uber and Bolt?

No. The copilot reads Uber and Bolt only. Anything else you drive for — FreeNow, private jobs, a school run — you type into the books yourself, and it counts the same in your totals.

Does it replace my accountant?

No, and it is not trying to. TrueEarn tidies your figures and hands them over. It never works out what you owe and it never files anything with HMRC.

Does it send my quarterly updates to HMRC (Making Tax Digital)?

Not yet. Today the books keep your records digital all year and hand them to your accountant. Sending updates to HMRC is not available: we are only trying it on HMRC's test service, and this page will say so when that changes.

What about my mileage allowance?

The books keep the miles you worked on each day and the odometer total for the tax year, and put both in the accountant's package. They do not work the allowance out, because claiming the miles and claiming the real running costs of the car are two different methods and your accountant picks one. What we can do is make sure the miles are there and provable.

Do I have to install anything?

For the books, no. For the copilot, yes: an Android app you download from here rather than from the Play Store — so your phone will warn you once and ask you to allow it. That is normal, and expected.

What if I am VAT registered?

Nothing changes here, and that is on purpose. TrueEarn records what came in and what went out, and hands your accountant the lot. Whether you are registered, which scheme you are on and what that means for the figures is their job, not ours — and it is why we do not ask you about it.
